When working hard to optimize the website for search engines, the bounce rate is an important metric. While it can lower your rating with Google and other services, it’s unfortunate for your marketing efforts in general.
Your website may be a great source of information, but people might not appreciate it enough to stay longer than a few seconds. The bounce rate is a percentage of users who visit your website and leave it without clicking anything. If this happens often, Google may start thinking your website is useless.
That’s why it’s important to keep the bounce rate to the very minimum. How do you do that? Let’s find out.
1. Decrease The Page Load Time
You may have an excellent and optimized website but any user will leave it if it loads too slowly. Slow is more than 3 seconds. In the modern world of lack of time and short attention spans, a slow-loading website is a “no-no”.
You can spend months creating interesting content, but it won’t work for you if the visitor doesn’t see it. Page load time is especially important for mobile devices, which are used when people are the most pressed for time. Check load time on a regular basis.
2. Improve Website Navigation
If the person doesn’t see what he or she wants immediately upon visiting your website, they might agree to stick around to make a search. If the navigation is not 100% straightforward, they won’t even try.
Users who look for something specific and cannot find it may leave the page or the website frustrated and angry. It’s up to you to improve the navigation, making it easy enough for a 5-year old to search through.
3. Invest In Excellent Design
If your website is dark and dull, people from your target audience may intuitively leave it. Meanwhile, if it’s nice and inviting, someone who comes across it may stick around. Make sure to create an interesting design, which includes colors, graphics, and an easy navigation.
Make all the forms you create on your website easy to use and interactive. This way you can encourage people to click and leave their information, which you can later verify by using phone number and email address validation.
4. Write Great Content
Content is king, and everyone knows it. If you don’t have excellent content welcoming users when the page loads, they’ll be quick to leave. If you are investing your time and effort in keyword searching, make sure you invest in content optimization as well.
When people see the keyword they were looking for in the middle of a completely unrelated text, they are likely to press the “x” button. Try hard to attract your target audience, and give them what they are looking for.
5. Get A Responsive Design
Make sure your site is mobile-friendly. Otherwise, anyone who visits it from their mobile will leave the page immediately, boosting your bounce rate. These days, it’s hard to create a website which isn’t suitable for mobile use. But it’s up to you to check how responsive it is.
6. Provide Readable Content
Your content may be excellent, but it’s the readability that counts. If you write huge paragraphs and use too much slang, your users may not be ready to process the information. Include bullet points, images, and videos in your content to make it easier to read.
